DIAMONDS IN DUST |
I retain a peculiar childhood memory, of the time when I was quite young and gullible. Six years old, and the world was quite new to me. Things seemed strange which are reduced to commonplace now. The world had a wonderful aura of mystery, and seemed to call to be explored. Colors were vivider, things seemed larger... and hell, I'm only sixteen now.
So, that particular recollection... It was quite a normal day at school. Except that right before break rumours spread that there were diamonds to be found at the far end of the field. And as soon as the bell clanged, we all, en masse, rushed out to the alleged diamond mines. What we enterprising lot actually sifted through in those fifteen minutes was the silvery sand that is used for construction, and which sometimes, when the sun glittered, seemed to scintillate. When we pounced upon those 'diamonds' they, of course, disappeared to nothingness. We returned disillusioned.
Perhaps all streaks of brilliance are merely that- an illusion, a breif play of light with whatever it finds. Or maybe it means that wonders can be found in the wierdest places, with no thought of propriety. Maybe, also, it means that precious things should not be pounced upon, to capture them.
And then again, maybe it was just our first encounter with life.
The first post of a new blog I started with a freind. It's called (surprise!) DIAMONDS IN DUST. Here's hoping for success- whatever that may mean. |

If knowing oneself is really proof of not knowing oneself this part of the profile is so pointless...
