Television soaps have exactly two kinds of characters:

1. The really evil kind who have no scruples in ruining lives and feel absolutely no remorse or guilt whatsoever.
2. The holier-than-thou kind, who do every good imaginable and then are ridden with guilt for absolutely no reason.

Also, I feel an irresistible urge to take the protagonist (who, of course, is the second kind) by the shoulders and shake some feminism into her (did I mention it's always a her?)

Aaaargh!

    Ummm- trust you to miss the point.
    I *was* referring to hindi soaps, yes. This does not automatically imply I watch them... as my post suggests- to have seen one is literally to have seen all.
    And yes, I watch Friends et al- and while a lot better than the Indian nonsense, to suggest they are intellectual paradise is kind of biased.
