PSYCHATRY AND INSANITY

Humans are puzzling. No one knows the workings of the human mind, least of all, one's own. But studying it is interesting. And the one question asked is- 'basically, how are humans?'
Well, let me start with the fact that any act that is cruel or hurtful to others is at once termed 'inhuman'. Which, of course, doesn't make sense.
What one human bieng does, any other is capable of doing, at least, scientifically. So with that, I consider one of the worst chapters in history. the second world war.
Oh yes, most people have had more than enough of it. So have I, truth be told. But reading all those books on that, I have some certain thoughts, and they frighten me.
Were the positions of Jews and Germans reversed, would not the same have happened. So it had nothing to do with who was involved.
That Hitler was mad is common knowledge, but that perfectly sane people (and considering that a major section of the population supported him, and I'm assuming they were fairly sane, otherwise chances are I'm insane, and so is every second person reading this) would support him, would take pleasure in killing, makes me wonder at civilization, makes me give serious thought to the fact that it could happen again. And easily.

But then again, the human race has perhaps learnt its lesson, perhaps it was imminent that such an episode take place to make people realize its errors.
And to end on an optimistic note, it cannot be forgotten that there were many who did not lose their senses, who retained vestiges of humanity, whatever it may be, even in the midst of all that.

That such a thing did happen is alarming, and disturbing. And no amount of pondering can solve the thought processes that make such acts a tangible reality.

The human race has learned its lesson? I regret not, Srebrenica, Rwanda, Darfur, Cambodia, it goes on and on and on. It seems that we human beings, given half a chance, will reject civilisation and revert to our pre-historical origins and kill, with crazed-eyed relish.
